Bear Hands are a post-punk and indie rock band that consists of Dylan Rau (vocals/guitar), Val Loper (bass), Ted Feldman (guitar) and TJ Orscher (drums).  The band hails from New York and formed in 2006.  In 2010, the band signed to Cantora Records when they released their first single, “What a Drag.”

After releasing their debut LP “Burning Bush Supper Club” in 2010, the band toured as the opening act for Passion Pit, GZA and We Were Promised Jetpacks.”  During mid-2014, their hit single, “Giants,” became a top-ten hit on the Alternative Songs chart.

Dylan Rau first met Ted Feldman while the two attended Wesley University and were later joined by Loper and Orscher through their previous bands, who were all involved in the local hardcore punk scene.  During an interview at SXSW 2010, Orscher was quoted saying, “Dylan had some material he wanted to put with a band, and a project Val and I were working on for the last half decade had just ended.  He said he knew the perfect guitarist and when we met up and played for the first time, as cliche as it may be, everything just clicked.  We started writing material together, fleshing songs out, and started to play some local shows around NYC.  We fight like brothers and love like mothers.  The rest is magic.”

A few months after forming, the band released their first EP “Golden” and became a “New York Buzz Band” due to popular blog features.  Three years later, the group released their 11 track album, “Burning Bush Supper Club.”

On February 18, 2014, the band released their second album, “Distraction,” which featured many of the band’s most popular singles such as “Giants” and “Agora.”

These guys is still very up-and-coming but they offer something a little new to the indie pop sound that has begun to sound to mainstream for its own good, a little injection of punk.  This is made abundantly clear on the groups most popular single “Giants,” with Rau’s vocals drifting fast paced rhymes to a more laid back chorus.  I’m interested to see what else these guys create in the future.  These guys should definitely be on your musical radar.  Check out some of the bands biggest hits below and if you like them, why not pick up Bear Hand’s albums “Burning Bush Supper Club” and “Distraction.”
