Hands Like Houses, an Australian rock band from out of Canberra, Australia first formed in 2008 from the remains of two other local bands, “So Long Safety” and “Eternal Debut.”  The band consists of six members: Trenton Woodley (lead vocals), Matt “Coops” Cooper (lead guitar), Alexander Pearson (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Joel Tyrrell (bass guitar), Jamal Sabet (keyboards) and Matt Parkitney (drums).

The band first started recording their debut EP “Ground Dweller,” at Chango Studios with producer Cameron Mizell.  Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the EP was never released.  Instead, the band decided to re-record some of their tracks and record six new tracks for a full length album.  In 2011, the band released two singles, “This Ain’t No Place For Animals” and “Lion Skin,” on Itunes which garnered over 5,000 single sales.

In January 2012, the band signed with Rise Records and released their debut album “Ground Dweller” in March.  The entire album could be streamed through the Alternative Press’s Website.  “Ground Dweller” made it to No. 141 on the Billboard Top 200 and No. 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.  The album was also generally well revived by critics.

On May 2, 2012, Hands Like Houses embarked on their first ever tour through the US on the Rise Records’ The Freshmen Class of ’12 Tour supporting bands such as “The Air I Breathe, ” “Palisades” and “My Ticket Home.”  In April 2012, the band released a video EP named “Snow Sessions” with acoustic performances of some songs from “Ground Dweller.”  Later in 2012, the band toured with “We Came As Romans” and “Attack Attack!” and in the fall of 2012, they toured with “Pierce The Veil” and “Sleeping With Sirens” on the Collide With The Sky Tour.

The band started writing new songs for their second album “Unimagine” as they toured through the UK with “Pierce The Veil” and “Woe, Is Me.”  They would perform these songs while touring until they finally released “Unimagine” on July 23, 2013 with the single “Introduced Species.”  The band played the entire Vans Warped Tour showcasing their new album as the tour traveled across the US.

The band confirmed that they would release a new EP titled “Reimagine” sometime in 2014 and that it would be a revisit to their previous work “Unimagine.”  The band has said, “Reimagine is a parallel and a rediscovery of Unimagine and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”  The EP was released on September 16, 2014 along with the first single off of the new album, “Revive (Introduced Species).”

Hands Like Houses has continued to expand its international fan base the more they have toured and promoted themselves.  With a mixture of technical effects, heavy songwriting and their post-hardcore passion and stage presence, Hands Like Houses delivers rich melodic vocals that soar over post-hardcore rhythm and riffs.

Dotan

Dotan Harpenau, better known by his stage name “Dotan,” is a Dutch singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer.  Dotan’s musical career began in 2011 when he sent an email containing some of his own compositions to record producer Sacha Skarbek and Martin Terefe (of James Morrison, Paul McCartney, Jason Mraz and Adele fame) which lead to him being invited to their studio.  Dutch top DJ Giel Beelen later nominated Dotan as the most promising new talent of 2011 and singles from Dotan’s debut album “Dream Parade,” recieved heavy airplay on Dutch radio stations.

Dotan has opened shows for, amongst others, Gavin DeGraw and Sinead O’Conner and together with his band, embarked on a major tour of all of the major clubs in the Netherlands.  On January 21, 2014, Dotan released his debut album, “7 Layers,” in Paradiso, Amsterdam.  The album was produced by Dotan himself and quickly reached No. 2 on the Dutch Top 100 Charts according to the Dutch news website Nu.nl.

The first single, “Fall,” was released on January 17, 2014.  The second single titled “Home” was released shortly after and was nominated as a SuperCrazyTurboTopHit, a 3FM Megahit, and a Alarmschijf on Dutch Radio.  “Home” spent the next two weeks at No. 1 on the Dutch Itunes Top 100.  It also entered the Dutch MegaTop50 at No. 1 and peaked at that chart for 4 weeks.  It also became No. 1 in “Vlaanderen” (Flanders) in Belgium on August 22, 2014.  “7 Layers” reached Gold status on August 25, 2014.

Dotan’s sound has a very calm, bare bones sound to it.  There is a constant contrast between silence and loud, erupting sound, acoustic guitar and dynamic rhythms and choruses.  All of these things are kept in check thanks to Dotan’s voice which that can range between quite and calm to loud and dramatic.  He is a very new artist whose skill for crafting songs has made him an international success both over seas and here in America.  Listen to some of Dotan’s biggest hits below and if you like what you hear, be sure to pick up, “7 Layers,” as soon as you can.
