Broods is a music duo from out of Nelson,New Zealand, composed of Georgia Nott (lead vocals) and her older brother and multi-instrumentalist Caleb Nott who helps with production and backing vocals.  The band released their first single, “Bridges,” on January 3, 2014 and it went to No. 8 on the New Zealand singles chart which lead to the band signing with Capitol and Polydor Records.  The band released their debut EP, “Broods,” on January 30, 2014 and then their debut full-length album, “Evergreen,” on August 22, 2014.

The siblings were born in Nelson, New Zealand and have performed together since childhood.  They grew up in a musical family with three other siblings, often accompanying their parents to performances.  They won a talent competition at Richmond Mall, “Richmond’s Got Talent,” as teenagers in 2010.  While attending Garin College, they were members of the indie rock band, “The Peasants,” who won the Smokefreerockquest music competition in 2011.  The band split in late 2012 after winning a grant from NZ On Air.  Georgia began studying popular music at the University of Auckland.  The siblings created “Broods” during college and dropped out shortly after to continue performing.

“Broods” formed in Auckland in early 2013.  The brother-sister project began collaborating with music producer Joel Little, whom they met as a judge at the Smokefreerockquest.  He produced Lorde’s single “Royals.”  While considering names for the band, their manager suggested Broods.  The band liked the double meaning, relating to family and a feeling of brooding in their music.  The band released their debut single, “Bridges,” in October 2013.  MTV described the track as “a bittersweet synth-pop echo chamber.”

The band released their debut album, “Evergreen,” on August 22, 2014.  The album debuted at No. 1 on the New Zealand album chart.  The band is still relatively up-and-coming but with the release of “Evergreen,” it’s apparent that they will soon become very popular.  Check out some of their hits below and listen for yourself.
