Flume

Harley Edward Streten, best known by his stage name “Flume,” is an Australian electronic music instrumentalist, producer, and DJ.  His debut self-titled album was released on November 9, 2012 and peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and No. 13 in New Zealand.  Flume is best known for his hit single, “Holding On,” which reached the Top 20 on the related ARIA Singles Chart and No. 22 in New Zealand.  The album and his hit single provided Flume with four wins and four nominations at the ARIA Music Awards of 2013.  His wins included Best Male Artist, Breakthrough Artist/Release, Best Dance Release and Producer of the Year.

Flume attributes his first taste for producing at age 13 to the most unlikely of places – a music production program he found in a cereal box.  Flumes influences stem from a variety of sources and often his sound gets distilled into a melodic bass heavy style that’s all his own.  One of his newer tracks, “Sleepless,” is getting significant buzz online with over 700,000 plays on YouTube and more than 120,000 plays on Soundcloud.  This up-and-coming DJ has already achieved a ton of support and affection from his continually growing fan base; who knows what lies in store when he releases his next studio album.

Check out some of Flume’s biggest hits below and keep an eye out for some of his remixes he is continually releasing.

James Koegh, better known by his stage name Vance Joy, is an Australian singer-songwriter who was born in Melbourne.  He has signed with Atlantic Records with a five-album deal and released his debut EP “God Loves You When Your Dancing in March 2013.  His biggest single, “Riptide,” was voted number 1 on the 2013 Triple J Hottest 100.

When Koegh first uploaded his hit track “Riptide” to Soundcloud, the track made it to number one on Hype Machine’s Most Popular Chart.  Koegh was very surprised by his success with the track which just recently went gold in Australia.  “I had a special feeling about it,” Koegh told Time.  “I didn’t know it was necessarily  be a really popular song, but I knew that it was catchy and it had a definite spark to it.”

Koegh performed at SXSW last year and caught the attention of an Atlantic Records executive in the U.S.  The label decided to give Koegh a chance and signed him to a five-album deal and shortly after, he released his debut EP, “God Loves You When Your Dancing,” which was produced in the back of his parents house by a producer from Melbourne, inside of a little studio they call “The Shed.”  Each of Koegh’s tracks off his EP took about a day to record.  “It was quite a low-key affair,” said Koegh.  “We just let it happen spontaneously, so it was a bit raw.  I think we embraced that.”

Koegh’s music has been described as indie-folk with a touch of modern pop mixed in.  He sings in in a soft tone while strumming along lightly with his ukulele.  His songs have a very self-confessional tone to them and many seem very upbeat and happy.  Koegh is still new to the business and has yet to receive a single royalty check but he says he doesn’t care.  He says he’s not in it for the money.  He just wants to focus on connecting with his listeners.

Below are some of his biggest hits so far.  Keep an eye out for his next album which he says is “coming soon.”
