Kung Fury is a 2015 Swedish martial arts comedy short film that was written, directed, and starred David Sandberg.  The film is an homage to 1980’s martial arts and police action films as well as to 1980’s side-scrolling beat ’em up arcade games.  The entire film was crowdfunded through Kickstarter from December 2013 to January 2014 with pledges reaching $630,019, exceeding the original target goal of $200,000, but missing the feature film goal of $1 million dollars.  The film was selected to screen in the Director’s Fortnight section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival but lost to “Rate Me” from the UK.

The film is utterly ridiculous in an awesomely bad 80’s way.  With hilarious cheesy dialogue, Nazis, Hitler, machine gun wielding warrior women on dinosaurs, the god of thunder, Thor, a hacker who can hack time and space, and a theme song that is sung by David Hasselhoff, this movie has it all and it is simply amazing that Sandberg was able to make all of it look so polished with only the $630,019 that he raised through Kickstarter.

The best part is that the film is free for everyone to watch through YouTube so check it out below.  I’ll also include David Hasselhoff’s official music video to the film as well.
