orgy-band-2013

Orgy, an American synthrock band that formed in 1994 out of Los Angeles, California, has just released a new single off of their upcoming new album that is set for a 2014 release.

Orgy was formed by vocalist Jay Gordon in 1994 and was later joined by guitarists Amir Derakh, Ryan Shuck and drummer Bobby Hewitt.  Within six months, the band was signed to Korn’s label, Elementree Records.

The band has released three albums since there formation, Candyass in 1998, Vapor Transmission in 2000 and Punk Stink Paranoia in 2004.

Their debut album, “Candyass,”  is best known for the the release of their two singles “Blue Monday” and “Stitches.”  “Blue Monday” being a cover of a song from the 80’s group New Order.  The album did relatively well and sold almost 2 million copies.

Orgy’s second album, “Vapor Transmissions,” was a science-fiction themed album that featured two singles, “Fiction (Dreams in Digital)” and “Opticon.”  The album largely continues the style heard on “Candyass.”  The electronic elements that were prominent in the previous album remained but their use of heavily distorted guitars were slightly de-emphasized so they could more strongly focus on melody.  Many of the singles received significant airplay.

Their third album, “Punk Static Paranoia,” was a major departure from their previous albums.  The album had a more nu-metal sound to it that is similar to bands like Korn and Linkin Park.  It also was the first album to feature occasionally screamed vocals.  With its release, it was heavily rejected by fans of the first two albums and it sharply divided the band’s fanbase.  The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart.

On October 30, 2010, Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh informed through their Julien-K blog that they would no longer be a part of Orgy.  Jay Gordon would continue on as the sole original member of the band.  By February 3, 2012, Jay had recruited all new members and embarked on the Bad Blood Tour.  On August 4, 2012, the newly reformed band released a new single “Grime of the Century.”  They cut their Bad Blood Tour short in order to record new music for their fans.

On February 23, the band released their new single “Wide Awake and Dead” which will be available on Itunes March 18 and will embark on a new tour sometime this year.

The band has had their ups and downs with varying amounts of success.  Lets see if their new upcoming album can help them retain their former glory they once had in the 90’s.  Check out some of the bands biggest hits below and be on the lookout for their new EP  which will be released later this year as well.
