MSI

Mindless Self indulgence (often identified using the abbreviation MSI) is an American punk rock band that incorporates a mixture of alternative rock, electronica, techno, industrial, hip-hop and breakcore.  Their band name comes from frontman Jimmy Urine’s solo EP that was released in 1995.

The band debuted their first album, “Tight, in 1999 and gained widespread popularity due to their over-the-top sound and equally outrageous live shows.  Their growing popularity soon landed them gigs opening for such acts as “Rammstein” and “Insane Clown Posse.”

In 2000, the group released their second album, “The Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy,” and in 2002, their live album, “Alienating Our Audience: Live.  In 2005, they released their third album, “You’ll Rebel To Anything,” through the industrial label Metropolis and was issued with three different versions, each with different bonus tracks and artwork.  In 2008, they released their fourth album, “If,” which had a more heavy-metal sound than their previous albums and caused them to change to the more heavy-metal centered label, The End in 2013.

In 2012, the band announced their next album, “How I learned to Stop Giving a Shit and Love Mindless Self Indulgence” which they were able to create through a Kickstart campaign.  The album was released in May 2013 through the band’s own independent label Uppity Cracker.

The band has been around for a long time and has, at times, had trouble releasing their albums through record labels due to controversial lyrics but with their erratic, often A.D.D. feeling mixture of musical style and sounds, the band is always interesting to listen to.  Give them a listen below and check out their newest album which is in stores now.
