Band of Skulls has developed quite a devoted fan following and has just released a new single off of their upcoming album “Himalayan.”

Band of Skulls are an English alternative rock band from Southampton, England.  The band is made up of Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals), Emma Richardson (bass, vocals) and Matt Hayward (drums).  The group formed after meeting in college, although Marsden and Hayward have been friends since high school.

Just starting off, the group played at night clubs in the Greater London area and recorded some demos under the name “Fleeing New York” before changing their name to “Band of Skulls” in November 2008.  The band’s original demos were recorded in one of the member’s fathers’ shed-studio.

The bands debut album, “Baby Darling Doll Face Honey,” distributed through Shangri-La Music, was released exclusively on the Itunes Store on March 6, 2009, followed by a general release on March 20.  The track, “I Know What I Am,” was chosen as Itunes’ Free Single of the Week to coincide with the digital release.

On March 23, 2010, Band of Skulls released “Friends EP,” which included the studio-recording version of their song “Friends.”  It also included a live version of the song and a music video.

Band of Skulls played at the SXSW Festival in early 2010 and toured the Midwest in March to support the band “Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.”  In April 2010, they toured the U.S. and Canada followed by England in May 2010, including a sold-out show at the London Electric Ballroom.  On June 28, 2010, they supported the band “The Dead Weather” at the Roadhouse in London.  In October 2010, they traveled to South Africa to play at the annual Rocking the Daisies festival.

On October 5, 2011, the band released their first single to come off of their next album, “The Devil Takes Care Of His Own,” with an accompanying music video.  Their second studio album, “Sweet Sour,” was released on February 21, 2012 in the U.S. and on February 20 in the UK and Europe.

On April 12, 2012, Channel 4 broadcast a short documentary starring the band.  They discussed the formation of Band of Skulls from their beginnings working the bars of their hometown to playing music in front of huge crowds and adoring fans across the globe.  The documentary also focused on the bands successes and achievements over the years.
