ImageHere’s another up-and-coming band from that nice little neighbor of ours, “The Great White North” or “Canada” as some call it.  Walk Off The Earth is a an alternative rock band that was formed in 2006 in Burlington, Ontario, and has gained success around the world by making low-budget music videos of covers and originals.

The band built it’s fan base independently with no help from record labels, booking agents or management.  In February 2012, the band was finally offered a recording contract with Columbia Records.  The band is best known for their covers of popular music on You Tube, by using uncommon instruments such as the ukulele and the theremin (which is an instrument that doesn’t require any physical contact in order to make sounds).

The band’s first success came from covering the songs of The Gregory Brothers.  The video video of the band’s cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Use To Know” became very popular on You Tube in 2012, gather over 127 million views in four months and received positive responses from both Gotye and his co-singer on the song, Kimbra.  The band has also covered “Someone Like You” by Adele, “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO, “Payphone” by Maroon 5, “Roll Up” by Wiz Khalifa and dozens of other tracks.  In December 2012, the band released an original single titled “Gang Of Rhythm.”  On March 11, RollingStone magazine streamed their unreleased R.E.V.O. LP in its entirety.  The full length R.E.V.O. album was released on March 19, 2013, followed by a tour based around the album.

These guys are very laid back and indie in their sound.  They constantly mix vocals between male lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Gianni Luminati, and female lead vocalist and also a multi-instrumentalist, Sarah Blackwood.  Luminati has been known to play the bass, guitar, ukelele, banjo, drums, theremin, xylophone, piano, cajon, cello and the u-bass.  Blackwood has been known to play the same instruments plus the glockenspiel.  Between the two of them, there is nothing but talent and I know that this band is going to make it big soon.  The band just recently released another single, “Red Handed” and it is great.  If you listen to any of their songs I recommend listening to “Red Handed” or their other single, “Gang Of Rhythm.”
